Spring 2008:

May 8: Department end of semester dinner at Laura's house (6 PM).  Everyone is invited.

April 2: Senior Seminar by Passang Dorji in Gerstacker 123 at 4:15 PM

Mar. 28-29: Spring Meeting of the Ohio Section of the American Physical Society at Youngstown State University.  Passang Dorji will be presenting a poster on his senior seminar project and Mark Taylor will give a talk on his recent research.

 

Fall 2007:

Dec. 12: Senior Seminar by Sebastien Dauby in Gerstacker 123 at 4:30 PM

Nov: Our recent physics graduates Sayuri Ichida ('06) and Greg Petersen ('07) are now both published authors!  Sayuri is coauthor (with Mark Taylor) on the paper: "Conformation of a polymer chain in explicit solvent: A solvation potential approach" published in the Journal of Polymer Science Part B: Polymer Physics (vol 45, pp. 3319-3326, 2007).  Greg is coauthor (with Mark Taylor) on the paper: "Solvation potentials for flexible chain molecules in solution: On the validity of a pairwise decomposition" published in the Journal of Chemical Physics (vol. 127, pp 14490.1-9, 2007).  Congratulations Sayuri and Greg.

Oct. 3: Mark Taylor will present a Library Forum on his recent research (and rock climbing) entitled "Beowulfs, Bugaboos, and the Physics of Pearl Necklaces" in the Pritchard room at 4:15.

Sept. 27-28: This years "Education that Works Conference" will include participation by three of our physics alums: Paul Grinberg ('02) now working for Keithly Instruments, Roy Miller ('97) now working for Kent Displays Inc, and Duprane Pedaci ('97) who is completing a Ph.D. in biochemistry at Case Western Reserve University.

Sept. 11:  This years annual Teach-In will include a session by Mark Taylor entitled "Dark Stories about the Evolution of the Universe".

 

Spring 2007:

March 30: Senior Seminar by Rudy Wojtecki in Gerstacker 123 at 6:30 PM

March 28: Senior Seminar by Greg Petersen in Gerstacker 123 at 6:15 PM. 

March 27: Sigma Xi Talk at 8:00 in KC Ballroom by Harvard Physicist/Chemist Eric Heller

March 20: Trip to Case Western for talk by noted Harvard physicist Lisa Randall.  Prof. Randal, author of the popular book "Warped Passages", will discuss some of the recent developments in string theory and her own work on understanding extra dimensions.  We will leave from Gerstacker at 4:00.

January 26: Welcome to the newest member of the Hiram Physics Department: Dominic Joseph Andy (Van Wormer)!!
