Hiram College

A major in philosophy requires ten courses in philosophy and must include:

1. PHIL 121 or 221 (Elementary Logic or Symbolic Logic)
2. PHIL 210 (Ancient Philosophy), 212 (Early Modern Philosophy), two more courses from the History of Philosophy Sequence (211 Medieval Philosophy, 213 Nineteenth Century Philosophy, 214 Twentieth Century Philosophy, 370 Existentialism, 375 Phenomenology)
3. Two 400-level classes
4. A foreign language through 103
5. Only one 100-level class besides 121 Elementary Logic can count towards the major requirements.

A minor in philosophy requires six courses and must include:

1. Either 210 or 212 (Ancient or Early Modern Philosophy),
2. One other class from the History of Philosophy Sequence (210, 211, 212, 213, 214, 370, 375), and
3. One 400-level class.
4. The remaining three are electives, though Logic is strongly recommended.
5. Only one 100 level class besides 121 Elementary Logic can count towards the minor requirements.
