I love poetry. I will happily read submissions from anyone as long as you are familiar with the state of contemporary poetry. Avoid sloppy looking submissions: Bios should be brief; Name address and e-mail or phone number should appear on every poem. Submit 3-5 poems with an self-addressed stamped envelope. If you have further questions you can write me at Hiram Poetry Review, P.O. Box 162, Hiram, OH 44234 or e-mail me at poetryreview@hiram.edu.
You may submit poems at any time during the year. Response time is 1 to 3 months but may take a little longer during the summer.
If possible, I recommend looking at the most recent issue of the Hiram Poetry Review. I like adventurous, humorous, idiosyncratic work that is not too self-involved. Poems should acknowledge some context beyond the self or Poetry. There are so many poems that do not treat the English language with any verve, aplomb, or gusto. If you want your poem to receive a careful reading, and if you like the looks of the journal, then you should consider submitting. I will comment on near-misses.
Reviews:
The Hiram Poetry Review reviews books of poetry published
within the past year. Reviews may cover more than one book of poetry.
Potential reviewers should query first with
book(s) selections. Pending the editorial board's decision,
we will ask for a 750-1000 word review.
