HIRAM RADIO STATION

WHRM is the college radio station. It is run completely by the students with Communications professor Abdullahi Gallab as their advisor. Typically one or two student station managers invite students who want to be involved in station programming. Students get experience as disc jockeys, sports announcers, and special programming events.

HIRAM CLOSED CIRCUIT TV CHANNELS

The recent addition of a cable network to the Hiram College campus has proven enormously popular with the student body, providing not only the traditional cable television channels such and CNN and ESPN, but the closed circuit Hiram Information Channel and the Hiram Movie Channel as well. Terrier Productions, an upstart campus organization for students interested in all facets of television production and broadcasting, looks to capitalize on Hiram's recent technological upgrades and an already-existing television studio by adding a third campus cable station, one dedicated to programming produced by and for Hiram College students.

TERRIER PRODUCTIONS

Although Terrier Productions was founded only last year, student interest and support of the organization has proven widespread. Numerous ideas for programming, technological support, and even fundraising have already been tallied, and now the group simply looks to implement its plans in the form of an established, entertaining campus network as the school year commences.

The project will positively affect virtually all departments and organizations on campus. Even greater interest in Hiram sports may be sparked through rebroadcasts of athletic contest or aired highlights, the Theater Department can increase its viewing audience with taped performances, and the Convocation speeches may be shown to an audience unable to attend at designated times. And with a proposed news program, upcoming campus events and student and faculty achievement will see greater exposure through special segments, commercials, or interviews.

Terrier Productions looks to establish itself as a powerful presence on the Hiram campus this year, bringing with it an unique opportunity for communication majors or anyone else interested in mass media to gain valuable hands-on experience. Reflecting the current rise in electronic media, the organization may quickly become one of Hiram's most visible entities, with students, faculty, and staff alike contributing to and enjoying the benefits of increased communication in an easy-to-digest format.
