He will be attending an acceptance banquet in his honor on May 26th at Windows on the River in the flats. Big Chuck and Little John and Don Webster from Channel 5 will be there to present the award.

Internships for 1999
1. In the hallway of Bates, there is a bulletin board for Communication Majors and Minors. It is full of travel opportunities, continuing education ideas, and internships for anyone who wants them.

Some of the more interesting opportunities include internships with WOIO and the Cleveland Metroparks. The WOIO internship will be available through the fall of 1999 and the deadline to send your resume and cover letter to them is June 30th. The Metroparks offers unpaid internships throughout the year. Paid internships are available through the summer but applications had to be received by January. You can send your resume and cover letter (stating interest and availability) to the address of the flier on the board.

2. The second most valuable source is all over campus. For those who feel comfortable searching the net, there are endless opportunities for internships out there. However, as a Hiram College student, it would be wise to start with our own Hiram Home Page. After your bring up the home page click on Administration, the Career Center, and finally Employment, to see what the Carrer Service Center has found for you.

In addition to this source, here are a couple of other good web sites you can explore:

Internship Experiences
Laura Martin had an internship with the Cleveland Crunch this past summer. Some of her duties included: arranging mascot tryouts, setting up camps, registering kids for youth camps, setting up autograph sessions, basic office duties, and she was a one-time game day operator.

Her internship was unpaid but she worked everyday from 9am - 5pm, June until August. Her experience brings mixed emotions. The experience was a good one, she's just not sure how much she liked it.

Emily Mastin did her internship at Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio. For three months she worked along side the director of development and community relations.

Some of her duties while at the hospital included: coordinating an open house, writing press-releases, newspaper articles, and newsletters, and she was responsible for a traffic study to help the administration understand where visitors go in the hospital.

The internship was not paid, however, the experience she gained was well worth the time and effort.
