LAMBDA PI ETA - National Communication Honor Society

Hiram Communication majors with high enough GPA's can now belong to the prestigious national communication honors organization, Lambda Pi Eta. Two years ago our department joined, and both traditional and weekend college outstanding majors have been initiated at an annual banquet in their honor.

WHAT IS LAMBDA PI ETA?

Lambda Pi Eta is the official communication studies honorary of the National Communication Association (NCA). As an accredited member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), Lambda Pi Eta has over 180 active Chapters at college and universities across the United States.

Lambda Pi Eta represents what Aristotle described in his book, Rhetoric, as the three ingredients of persuasion: Logos (Lambda) meaning logic, Pathos (Pi) meaning relating to emotion, and Ethos (Eta) defined as character credibility and ethics.

The Goals of Lambda Pi Eta are to:

  • recognize, foster, and reward outstanding scholastic achievement;
  • stimulate interest in the field of communication;
  • promote and encourage professional development among communication majors;
  • provide an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas about the field;
  • establish and maintain close relationships and understanding between faculty and students;
  • and explore options for further graduate studies
