Grading
Student Development 611.02 is both a course to develop your skills in job
seeking and a personal development course. Thus, I can only evaluate the
"quality" of your work on certain items: I can't evaluate
the "quality" of your career goals ("good" or
"poor") but I can evaluate whether your work is thoughtful and you
have tied your career goals to what you say about your interests and
values.
In addition, this course is only worth one credit, a small
amount for the amount of work you put into it. However, I feel the work is
justified since you must find a job, and there are really no shortcuts to doing
so.
You will be graded on the following components:
 | completion of all the Activities for your Portfolio (there
are twenty-six of them!) Missing Activities will decrease your grade,
and some Activities are more important than others. The
Job Search Plan, the resume and cover letter, and the Interview Preparation
must be high-quality to receive full credit. |
 | Consistency. Your work must show thought. Your goals
must be consistent with your interests and values, or you must make a good
case for what goals you choose. Arbitrary choice of random jobs to
explore without thought will result in a lower grade. While I want you
to complete all the Activities necessary for this class, it is VERY
important that you think about them at the same time. |
 | Appropriate business writing. You are a college senior.
I expect your best writing and so do employers. |
