Class Twelve

Transition from College to the Workplace: Accepting a Job Offer and Entering a New Culture

Read Chapters ten and eleven.

The goals of this last class are:

to briefly discuss salary negotiation
to begin to think about accepting a job offer and completing the transition to work.

By now, we hope you have applied for some jobs, or, at least, you’re ready to anticipate what you would do. Chapter Ten has a good description of the salary negotiation process.

Don’t be misled. It is uncommon for new college graduates to negotiate a salary. Rather, most entry level positions have a fixed salary attached to them, with perhaps room for a small bonus for extra experience or potential. Check out the Resources page for more thoughts on this part of the process

Activities:

12-26.  To complete this course, review all the material in your Portfolio. Are you satisfied that it still represents what you know about the job search process?

Based on your research and interview experience, review your Job Search Plan.

What will you do next? In a week? In a month? Make any changes on your calendar and in your plan.

Send me your Portfolio via email or bring a disk to the Career Center by the end of the semester. Remember to mark your Portfolio with STDV 611.02, the semester and your name.

Thanks for taking the class.  Please complete the

Course Evaluation.
