In order to write an effective resume and cover letter, to prepare for interviews or even to target employers that interest you, you should know as much as possible about the employers you plan to contact so that your networking, an important later job search strategy, can focus on issues and information not easily obtained by reading reference material. See Research Employers on the Career Center website; then try the website of another college to see what resources they have available - try liberal arts colleges in geographic areas that interest you. Next, think of a potential employer and locate their website. Use a search engine. Look for "Careers" or "Employment" or "Human Resources" to find their employment descriptions. Here's an example. Choose Administration and then Human Resources for a link to information on museum careers. Find it? The resources from the University of Northern Illinois also offer a good place to get started.
