Understanding the Job Market

Read Chapter Four.

The goals of this class session are

  • To identify current trends in the job market
  • To appreciate the changing nature of careers and the job market
  • To recognize how job market knowledge can benefit your job search

If a bonus is offered on Wall Street to new college graduates, should you expect one in Cleveland?  Which organizations pay attention to concerns about work-life balance? Examples of important sources include the following:

Also read generally about work:

Activities:

4-9 Explore the sources listed above until you find materials relating to your career field. You may explore online using the links above, check books out from the Career Library, use a search engine to search the Internet for employment articles, read newspapers, magazines or journals, or talk to alums or other professionals. See page 68 in your textbook – answer these four questions in your Portfolio.

When you have completed the assignments through Class Session Four, send your portfolio to me either as an attachment to an email to craigkm@hiram.edu or bring your portfolio disk, marked Portfolio for (your name); Student Development 611.02, (semester and year).
