Assignment: Read Chapters One and Two in Managing Career Transitions
Goals for this Class Session
Adults return to college for many different reasons. Some of you may be finishing a curriculum you started many years ago, fulfilling a personal goal or simply completing a degree you began more recently. Others are changing career fields or trying to develop skills to advance in your profession.
Once you begin to attend college, however, you often lose track of your goals and are unable to remember or to focus on exactly why you are in college and where you hope to be when you finish. You may now be interested in different subjects or have abilities and skills you didn’t have when you began.
This course will offer you time to reflect and re-evaluate. Take a few minutes to write a few paragraphs about why you are in college, what you hope to gain from your education, and how your education relates to your career goals. If you don't know how your education relates to your goals or you haven't set goals for yourself, don't worry! We will work towards that during the course. You could address that issue in your short essay.
Send that essay to me when you are done to craigkm@hiram.edu. Please put STDV 180.51 in the subject line to identify your work.
Career development is a lifelong process of growth and change. As adults, you may be in many places in your career - just beginning your initial choice, making a major life transition, reassessing your original plans or near retirement. Take time to reflect on where you are, how satisfied you are with your current position and thoughtfully review where you would like to be in two years, five years, ten years.
